From One Artist to Another: Introducing the T.K. MacLellan Artist Initiative

Updated: Nov 4

Roddy graduated from Glasgow School of Art, where he studied silversmithing and photography, and graduated with a master's degree. While he was studying, he won the Johnson Matthey Competition for his submission of a handmade sterling silver water jug (which is still on display at the university today).

He brought his talents to the USA in 1980. He began working for Ubaldo Vitali doing silversmithing for Bulgari, Cartier, and Tiffany, not only making jewelry but trophies for the Super Bowl and various horse races, as well as restoration work for Sotheby's and Christie's.

After leaving the shop, he did free-lance photography while selling costume jewelry that was used in various fashion shows and worn by the likes of Cindi Lauper. Now, Roddy still pours his creativity into his work as well as rebuilding motorcycles in his free time.

As an artist, the largest struggle Roddy faced was getting the opportunity to show his work in a gallery or have it on display commercially. Now that he has the capacity to do that, he and the rest of T.K. MacLellan wants to pay it forward and help other artists get the chance to show their skills.

That is why we are proud to present:

The Artist Initiative

In our efforts to help promote, encourage, and develop Celtic crafts and culture, we will be selecting 10 talented artists to put their work in our gallery space to be sold on a consignment basis.

Applications are now being accepted at: T.K. MacLellan Artist Initiative
